sustainable futuristic cities at a glance
How to increase your grade from a 4 to a 5,6,7, or 8 by using the rubric below!
Criterion a: Inquiring and analyzing
Cities that exist today, need to start becoming more sustainable in the future, for many reasons. One reason, is because of global warming, which is a huge threat to a lot of major cities that exist today, like Amsterdam, The Netherlands, which is in danger because it is barely above sea level, and would flood if the sea levels ever rise. Another reason, is because becoming more sustainable, can support cities for years to come, for things like: Huge population growth, food shortages, etc..

These images give me ideas for creating my own futuristic city, because of a few reasons. First of all, I can use certain elements that are shown in these images, and which I can use in my own city (skyscrapers, floating cars, etc...). Also, It can help me get an idea about the location, since some of the pictures show cities in Japan, which would be a good place to have a futuristic city set in.
Criterion b: developing ideas:
The kinds of renewable energies that I will be using in my futuristic cities are:
- Solar Power
- Wind Power (Wind Turbines)
- Hydro Power (Dams, etc...)
The kinds of parks that I will be using in my futuristic city:
- Fitness parks
- Sport Parks
- Picnic Parks
- Relaxation Park
The kinds of buildings in my futuristic city:
- Skyscrapers
- Suburbs
- Canals around the city
- Strong, effective materials
- Factories and housing in different sections
- Farming occurs around residential areas
The ideal positioning of where I would build my city:
- Near body of water
- Not near any mountains
- Far from fault lines or volcanoes
The kinds of transportation that I would use in my city:
- Monorails
- Hovering cars
- Subways
- Small and big boats
- Elevators and Escalators
The kind of social structure in my city:
- Democratic
- Free religion
- Equal rights for all people
- No "Wasta"
- Focus on creating strong families
- Law applies to everyone in the entire city, regardless of importance

Design 1:
Design 2:
Design 3:
I would choose Design 1, because of a few reasons. One reason, is because it would look more modern, compared to the other designs, as they look almost like cities that exist today. Another reason, is because Design 1 looks much better aesthetically in my opinion, compared to the other designs.
Futuristic cities on youtube
This video, is showing a futuristic city, where there are skyscrapers, called MegaTowers, which are self sufficient, and can even have roads crossing between them.
This video shows a futuristic city, being built in Minecraft. The city is being built both underwater, and on land, which makes it perfect for rising sea levels.
This video, shows a city that is actually the setting for a video game. This city, is very vibrant, and uses renewable energy, like solar panels.
Criterion C: Creating a Solution
(Pictures are ordered based on when the thing was built)
The city's river that flows through it,
The solar panels on a building, which provide power to the building and it's surroundings.
Wind turbines on a building, which also provide power.
The police station, which protects the city from criminals and other things.
A farm on one of the buildings, which is an efficient way to grow food within a city.
A helipad, used as a transportation option to get around the city easily.
The national guard HQ, which can also be used to protect the city.
Trees used as decoration on top of buildings, which beautifies the city.
A monorail, which can be used as a more efficient way of transportation. (Roads for electric cars below)
A hospital, which can treat people for diseases and other things.
A mosque, which is used as a place of worship.
Final form of the city.
Criterion d: Evaluation
Strand 2: My creation was successful, because it fulfilled the role of a futuristic sustainable city, as it had many forms of transportation that were efficient. It also had clean, renewable energy in it.
Strand 3: To improve my solution, I could add even more transportation options, as well as adding a geothermal power plant, to make the city more traffic-free and eco-friendly.
